OLD BUSINESS:  How are things we changed working out?

  • Outside sub rule
    • Eleven different teams used this rule. No team abused it.

  • 11 + a goalie for a full team
    • The only teams that seemed to struggle for subs were those who had less than 11.

  • Ref Issues?  Calling enough? Too much? Just right?
    • Still an awful lot of yelling/name calling of refs. Captains need to quiet their players.
    • Have refs YELL for icing or no icing. Need clarification from ref at each game about icing.
    • Refs need to review the delayed offsides rule, not consistent
    • Refs….when you make calls stick with them. Stop using the “Heather will fire me if I don’t call penalties” excuse.  No, Heather will firmly talk to you if she sees penalties you are not calling which are making play dangerous or are causing the game to get out of control. You are there for the SAFETY of our players.  That means calling penalties

  • Players/teams at the right level?
    • I KNOW these exist.  There are forms at your tables.
    • TWO players in the BC league were voted to move up. These players will be contacted by Heather.
    • BC has split into TWO levels- a competitive level and a recreational level. These are NOT based on standings, but by the physicality of their play.

  • Scheduling
    • More teams this fall.  Should we go earlier? Later? Were playoffs/finals better scheduled this year? (not on Saturday?)
    • We will likely go earlier if need be.  Adding 2 more games will likely mean an 11 on the NHL side and a 12 on the OLY if necessary.
    • NEW PLAYER LEVELS
      • A = A league
      • B = Old B+ League
      • C = Old B- League
      • D = Competitive BC League (Squirrels, Slashers, goons, District 5, Outlaws, Pirates)
      • E = Recreational BC League (Rats, Foxes, Bulldogs, Unicorns, Goal Diggers, New BC team)
      • F = Old C League

  • Kill the Keg   May 6-7
    • Not enough time between playoffs and tournament? Bad weekend because of Cinqo de Mayo? Had 7 teams sign up.  2 competitive, 4 intermediate, 1 rec.  Should have been 3 competitive and 3 intermediate.
    • Next year tournament will be the week AFTER Mother’s Day.  Not enough time between season end and people needing to get on the ice.

  • Instructional Hockey for Adults
    • Preferably for C and BC players
      • Taught by Joe Giorgi / Kyle Ver Woert / Thad Ramsey
      • 42 registered players and 6 drop ins over the last 3 months.

  • Progressive Suspensions

Rule 411 | Progressive Suspensions

USA Hockey is committed to providing a safe and fair environment for all participants. While the vast majority of players participate within the rules and respect the game and their opponents, USA Hockey recognizes the need to hold those players and coaches deemed to be repeat offenders accountable for their actions. Beginning with the 2014-15 playing season, the Progressive Suspensions rule will take affect nationally.

(a) Any player who receives their third major penalty during the same season for any combination of aggressive infractions listed below shall receive an additional three-game suspension. For any player who receives their fourth major penalty in this category, the player shall receive an additional five-game suspension. Any player who receives their fifth major penalty in this category during the same season shall be suspended until a hearing is conducted by the proper authorities (USA Hockey Affiliate). These designated game suspensions shall be in addition to any other suspensions imposed through the official playing rules. The aggressive infractions that fit into this category are:

  • Rule 603 Boarding
  • Rule 604 Body Checking (Body Contact categories)
  • Rule 606 Butt-Ending
  • Rule 607 Charging
  • Rule 608 Checking From Behind
  • Rule 609 Cross-Checking
  • Rule 611 Elbowing
  • Rule 619 Head-Butting
  • Rule 620 Head Contact
  • Rule 621 High Stick
  • Rule 627 Kicking
  • Rule 628 Kneeing
  • Rule 634 Slashing
  • Rule 635 Spearing
  • Rule 639 Tripping/Clipping/Leg Checking
  • Rule 640 Unnecessary Roughness (Roughing)

  • Discussion ensued about whether or not an injury needed to occur; reps agreed an ‘attempt to injure’ was dangerous enough and several players currently play more rough than necessary, although they may not ever have been ejected from a game for their actions (they get 1-2 penalties a game). A ref may determine that a player is playing dangerously and eject a player based on their physicality of play for any of the above (please note SLASHING and TRIPPING are also listed!!!)

  • We will adjust this rule to read “Any player ejected from two games in a calendar year for these penalties or resulting from an attempt to injure will result in a one year BAN from the league”.

  • STICK TIME??
    • HEY!  STICK TIME IS ONLY $5 THIS MONTH!! And if people USE IT, it will remain this price ALL SUMMER!
    • Yeah for less expensive stick time!!  But 5:15 is hard for people to get to who work til 5. I will let Dave know.
    •
  • GARY SENT THIS:  Likes OT with no shootout. Reasonable promotion/relegation system if it could be worked out.   B/C games called tighter, especially off-sides, icing, and restraining fouls.

  • OLYMPIC CELEBRATION
    • June 24th
    • HOCKEY EVENTS:  Kid’s competition from 7:30-8:45am; Adult skills competition from 1:15- 2:45pm; Try Hockey for Free 5-6:30pm. The Jaycees will be giving awards for the top winner in each category (fastest slap shot, accuracy challenge, obstacle course) as well as the overall winner.

  • FREEDOM FESTIVAL PARADE
    • July 2nd.  We have our own float.  I am working with Chad Eggleston to get a trailer.  Planning on using artificial ice surface and plexiglass to “pull an ice rink” with skaters skating on it. Small children in roller blades, adults in jerseys walking. PLEASE COME.  It’s a lot of fun and you’ll see a lot of our old players. Maybe we can get them back.

  • NEW BUSINESS
    • If you have been MOVED UP by League Review, you may NOT double roster back ‘down’, only up.
    • Team Reps would like to have a “Tune Up Tournament” at the end of the Summer. Individual registrations accepted.  Date requested in August 24-25. Heather will check into availability.
    • FOURTEEN week season in fall NO PLAYOFFS
    • Kids Tune Up Tournament Sept 15-16-17. Heather will check availability and discuss partnering with the CRHA to make this happen.
